Gaming streamers record numbers
It is not just one of the eSports trends, but is developing into a real movement. We are talking about gaming streamers. In recent years, they have seen extreme growth, both among viewers and in the area of active providers and gamers. Gaming streamers are becoming a real alternative to other online offers. Of course, there are different forms of streaming services and content, but you can already say that it has become one of the most popular forms of gaming, whether it is gambling like Book of Dead or Rick and Morty Casino Online slots, live casinos, shooters, casino reviews adventure or other internet games. What is the reason for the success of these providers? How exactly do they work? And who is the top dog in the world of gaming streamers? We took a closer look at all of this.
From the rise of gaming streamers
A distinction must first be made between classic gaming streamer providers that only allow the use of games via the cloud, such as Geforce Now, Vortex, Paperspace, Playstation NOW, Parsec, Medion Erazer, Google Stadia, Shadow Tech or Liquid Sky and services that enable interaction. And there is actually only one provider that is perceived today and masters the field superiorly. We're talking about Twitch. And that is where our considerations should also be of particular interest when we look at the success of gaming streamers. Because they are successful, as the numbers clearly show. It is impossible to record all streams, but there are reasonably reliable numbers from Twitch that document very well which dimensions one speaks of. The service has between 2.2 and 3.2 million transmissions per month and over 15 million active users per day. 41% of users are between 16 and 24 years old and 65% are male. Compared to other streaming services, such as Film services like Netflix or Amazon Prime are not that gigantic numbers, but you have to consider that it is a kind of "niche product" that appeals to a very specific target group. In this case, things look very different again, because the results are very impressive, even if it is difficult to determine the exact number of viewers of a stream. But if you know that 95 streamers have over 1 million subscribers, you can calculate the approximate number.
Niche product writes success figures
Twitch was founded in 2011 by Yale student Justin Kane, who went online with the streaming portal Justin.tv in 2007. This portal allowed different people to broadcast live videos. The possibilities of this portal were quickly discovered by gamers who streamed gaming sessions. The proportion grew, so Twitch was founded in 2011. The success became so gigantic that the industry's top dogs showed their ears and Amazon finally paid $ 970 million for the company. Since then, Twitch has been closely associated with the Amazon company. This is shown, for example, by the fact that Amazon Prime customers can also own Twitch Prime and thus download new games every month for free, as well as use other Prime services. So what is going to be played on Twitch? There is a survey from October 2019 and this shows the following:
- League of Legends (116 million viewer hours)
- Fortnite (67.7 million viewer hours)
- Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (41.3 million viewer hours)
- Grand Theft Auto V (33.6 million viewer hours)
- World of Warcraft (30.8 million viewer hours)
This certainly has something to do with technical development. Ever more powerful and faster computers and an ever better network enable high-quality streaming without jerking or distortion. That's where the fun begins. Changes in leisure time behavior among young people also do their part. And in the last few months, of course, the effects of the crisis, which has tied many activities to home and attracted numerous new customers. The same can of course be seen with other streaming services. Perhaps the enthusiasm wears off after the crisis, or you can keep the customers by even better offers and even win new ones. The next few months will show this.
