In 2019, the summer solstice celebrated with  fireworks in Wachau, "the Austrian Danube Bend".

Guests of the Experience Train have the opportunity to visit the most beautiful places in Wachau: first we stop in Krems a.d.  Donau for a few minutes for our guests who wishes to disembark there. After we continoue our journey and we spend a longer four hour rest in Dürnstein, famous for the ruins of the medieval castle, and then continue to the Spitz an der Donau and arrive early in the evening. Fireworks are the most spectacular part of the celebration, with locals celebrating the shortest night of the year. Our train departs from Spitz an der Donau after viewing the fireworks, and arrives in Budapest the following morning.

The train is towed by the legendary M61 series Nohab diesel locomotive. There is a dining and bar car in the train. Guests can choose from three car classes: Economy Club, Pullman Club or Sleeping car.
When planning your individual program, please note that our guests who might disembark at Krems a.d. Donau or Dürnstein can board the train only around midnight when we arrive to their original stops. The exact schedule is available under the Schedule tab.

In order to travel, passengers – both adults and children alike – must have a valid passport or ID card!

Dürnstein

The walled, tiny town of Dürnstein, with its charming location, is a symbol of the Wachau, probably the most photographed point, with a beautiful blue-white baroque church tower and a romantic castle ruin. In the high season, Dürnstein’s reputation for its popularity, its monuments and its unrivaled location is mainly due to the Lionhearted King of England, who was forced for about two years to wait in the castle.

Spitz an der Donau

The Celtic town is located at the bottom of a vineyard on the northern shore of the Danube, opposite of Mühlberg, 712 meters high. During the counter-reformation the city served as the last avenue of evangelists. Spitz’s main street leads to a 15th-century parish church. Close to the city you will find the ruins of Hinterhaus, the castle of the Kuenring Knights. North of the city, the Rote Tor hill offers a beautiful view of the Wachau valley.

Dining and bistro car

The cozy dining and bistro car of the train is at your disposal for the entire period of the journey with hot meals, snacks and drinks. The menu includes vegetarian and meaty dishes. Just take a seat and leave yourself into the unique atmosphere of the dining car.
