242,001 steam locomotive

Highlight of the MÁV Nostalgia fleet is the locomotive Class 242 restored in working order in the year 2002. The tank locomotives with streamlined casing built by the Budapest Locomotive Factory in 1936 and 1940 were the fastest Hungarian steam locomotives of all. The locomotives hauled express trains between Budapest and Miskolc with a maximum speed of 120 km/h. Locomotives of the Class were the last streamlined steam locomotives performing revenue service in Europe.
