Steam clouded journey to the Cuha valley

Steam clouded journey to the Cuha valley

On 30th of April 2016 a nostalgia train with steam locomotive runs in the well known Cuha valley which is one of the most beautiful railway tracks of Hungary. Our train runs in the frame of cooperation between MÁV Nosztalgia Kft and Bakony Railway Association.
Our passengers can travel in vintage cars and get know the atmosphere of the train journeys of the early 20th century. During this nostalgia ride a steam and a diesel locomotive will pull the cars alternately.
The Cuha valley is located, between Zirc and Bakonyszentlászló in the Bakony hills. Our journey leads through canyons, tunnels and viaducts. We are sure that these elements of the track make the Cuha valley the most beautiful railway line of our country. In addition the snow white limestone rocks ensure a breathtaking spectacle. The valley was named after the Cuha creek, which flows there. The „Cuha” is a Slavonic origin word, which means dry. It is an absolutely relevant name, because during summertime the creek almost totally dried out, however in spring and autumn the water level could significantly rise.

The heart of Bakony Hungary’s highest city, whose history dates back more than 900 years, and most of the Cistercian Abbey of disclosure.
The train station is about 10-15 minute walk from the Abbey with the Cistercian Museum Library. We recommend viewing the Abbey Church with the Church History Exhibition, of which the Bakony region’s most impressive Baroque church. The beautifully restored church inside the center of the Cistercian Order in Hungary.
After the visit to the Abbey is worth walking through the Arboretum, where you can admire the botanical garden walking among the wonderful world of plant flowers, trees and bushes. Zirc ticket information by clicking here.
